Area Information

Fredericksburg, and the surrounding counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George, are a mecca of all good things.  You think I exaggerate? Dining, shopping, history, outdoor activities, even wine are available in abundance!  Here is the brief summary of our area as written by Bethany!

Dining

Whether you enjoy small, local eateries or those restaurants that serve much of America, you can find it in Fredericksburg VA and the surround counties. The downtown area is home to many fabulous restaurants, bars, coffee houses, and snack shops. Organic ingredients, homemade ice cream, fresh pastry, local meat and produce, and international selections can all be found at restaurants in Fredericksburg. In the surrounding areas, are the best of the chain restaurants such as Panera, Chili’s, Outback Steakhouse, and more. Be sure to try TruLuv’s, Bistro Bethem, Bangkok Café, and The Otter House.

 Shopping

Downtown Fredericksburg is home to many antique, boutique, and eclectic shops that are perfect locations for the finding that unique gift or something special for your home or wardrobe. My personal favorites include (but are are not limited to) The Virginia Wine Experience and Made in Virginia Store both located on Caroline Street, part of the 18 blocks of shops and dining in downtown Fredericksburg.

You are not limited to downtown however. There are numerous shopping opportunities throughout the area. Some of the largest are Central Park, Spotsylvania Towne Center, and the shopping areas along Plank Road, Garrisonville Road, and Spotsylvania Parkway. A full list of shopping in Stafford County can be found on Gostaffordva.com and in Spotsylvania County, look at the Tourism Guide on Spotsylvania.org.

 History

As an early Colonial town and pivotal location in the Civil War era, Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas are rich in history.   Home to George Washington’s childhood home, Ferry Farm, and the location of 4 Civil War battlefields, there is much to see and do if you are a history buff. One great place to start is the Fredericksburg Area Museum.  Many websites offer great tips on what to see and do in the area.

Outdoor Activities

If you love the outdoors, you will love the Fredericksburg area. The Rappahannock River offers wonderful opportunities for water activities. Plus there are great parks, both State and County Parks in Stafford and Spotsylvania.
